All Together Now – Uganda’s ‘Pearl’ opens at Bedford High School
It’s said that music really is the universal language…
So when an internationally acclaimed touring choir heads all the way from Uganda to Leigh’s Bedford High School later this month, there will certainly be plenty to talk about.
The Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir has taken its unique blend of dance, music and drumming across the UK.
For the second year running it will be making a special all-
The choir will be working with GCSE music students and pupils from Garrett Hall Primary School during the day. In the evening they’ll all be joined by the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra for a live concert.
The tour will raise funds for the Molly and Paul Childcare Foundation, which has been responsible for the building of seven schools in Uganda with more than 2,600 pupils. Children from these schools now sing in the Pearl of Africa choir.
The live concert will start at 7pm on the day Bedford’s Upper School Hall and finish shortly after 9pm.
Bedford High’s Head teacher Stephen Preston said: “We’re delighted to be hosting Pearl of Africa again this year. It reinforces our international dimension, which includes links with schools in France, Sweden, South Africa and Boston, USA. All are welcome to come along to enjoy the concert in the evening. It will be a wonderful celebration of world music.”
Tickets are £5 or £3 concessions and are available from Bedford High’s Music Department or on the door. To avoid disappointment, please book early. To book or for more information call the school on 01942 486386.
