The GCSE courses focus on the client-manufacturer model, where pupils are involved in the designing and making of useful, functional 3-dimensional products using materials such as wood, plastics and metals. During the first two terms of year 10 we focus on the teaching and learning of the essential skills, knowledge and processes needed for success in this GCSE course. As we approach the 3rd term in year 10 we commence the GCSE Coursework Design Folder. The Coursework accounts for 60% of the final marks achievable in the course. A key aspect of the coursework is that it incorporates both CAD and CAM. We run the AQA GCSE course. The main elements of the Design Folder must be completed by the October of year 11. The entire Coursework must be completed by the Easter of year 11. The remainder of the time following the Coursework deadline is taken up by preparing for the final Examination which takes place in July. The Exam accounts for the remaining 40% of the final marks achievable in the course. The theme for the Exam is published by AQA in March.
