ICT and Business

The department benefits from 6 PC and 2 Apple Mac suites, something very rare in most secondary schools.  Students learn to operate fluently on both systems and benefit from additional study on Film Making and Web Design.

KEY STAGE 3
At Key Stage Three pupils follow the National Strategy. This is currently being updated to ensure that all of the new framework objectives are being met.  They undertake a variety of projects that teach them the basics through a fun and cross-curricular style.  For instance, the 5-A-Day unit studies databases in the context of healthy lifestyles and eating more fruit and vegetables!

A selection of schemes of work:
All About Me - Powerpoint
Harry Plotter - Excel and spreadsheets.
Webpage Design.
5-a-day - Databases

KEY STAGE 4
At Key Stage Four pupils complete a DIDA qualification. This can be equivalent to between one and four GCSEs depending upon the number of units completed. The Edexcel course has no exams and is 100% coursework based.

Year 10: Pupils studying ICT in year 10 have started their first unit of work, Using ICT. This year the project is based on the organisation and promotion of a dance marathon to raise money for charities. So far they have created a workable plan for their entire projects, sourced information from secondary sources and recorded these. Pupils have also created a database to hold information about music soundtracks.

Year 11: Pupils in year 11 are currently studying a variety of units. The Multimedia groups are completing an electronic storybook to be used by younger children and the Graphics groups are creating 3D scenery and characters for an imaginary world.
