English

English nurtures development of the fourteen enterprise capabilities as well as providing high quality education for all pupils. In Year 7, students are setted using data from the feeder primary schools' teacher assessment and Key Stage Two results. Pupils remain in these groups until proof of suitable progress has been made. Pupils can then move up or down groups as necessary. Support from Business & Enterprise provides the funds to pay specialist staff to raise achievement in English.

All students follow NEAB AQA/A GCSE English and English Literature over 4 lessons per week. A good grade in English is the gateway to future success and underpins achievement in all other subjects. The course is combined and provides students with 2 GCSEs. There are 2 tiers of entry: foundation tier awards grades G - C, higher tier awards grades D - A*. Decisions regarding tiers of entry are made in year 11 and will be based on performance in the mock exams and on coursework marks.

We aim to enter as many students as possible for both English and English Literature at GCSE.

Coursework consists of 5 written and 3 speaking and listening assignments - all are compulsory.
